A little bit about Jonathan

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, I grew up knowing how to brave the heat and enjoy the great outdoors. I stayed in Phoenix through both my undergraduate and graduate programs and began my career as a therapist in Scottsdale. After dreaming of moving to Colorado for many years, I finally made the move. While I may always be an Arizonian at heart, I love all that the mountains of Colorado have to offer. When I am not working, I try to spend my time with my wife and dog in the outdoors, in any capacity. Hiking, fly fishing, and cycling are my favorite hobbies, but I also love to spend an afternoon every once in a while just napping in a hammock. My friends and family call me JT. You can too!

Why do clients choose JT? Here is a bit of voluntary feedback from a few of Jonathan Thrall's clients.

There was a lot going on under the surface of our relationship so I was doubtful that seeing a therapist would net positive results. Since I'd never been to therapy, I didn't really know what to expect. Just a few months later, my partner and I are shocked about our experience with JT. We are in awe of his ability, and amazed that he can take a phrase or a sentence, focus in on what is being said, and identify exactly what is going on with us. I've never met a more empathetic, compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable man who really does care about us.

We are so grateful to JT, and IRTC as a practice, for the impact you have made in our lives together.  JT’s empathetic, down to earth style, and unpretentious ability to connect with both of us was instrumental in our experience. His ability to hone in on a single word or phrase, and know that it was important, was remarkable. We can't really put into words what an incredible therapist he is.

JT gave us the best possible therapy experience! We appreciated his patience with me because it took time for me to be able to discuss many topics. It always felt like he knew when to push and when it was better to slow down. Most importantly I value the hope he gave us. My partner and I are in a much better place and are excited about our future again.

Jonathan helped us get to the root of our underlying feelings, instead of just talking about the drama that was masking them. I appreciated being able to say things directly to my partner and hearing him speak directly back to me.

JT is a wonderful therapist and I am grateful for my work with him.

Why I decided to pursue a career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I knew from an early age that I wanted to help people move towards health and wellness in some way and I spent my first year of college studying to become a physical therapist. While I enjoyed studying the science of physical health, I felt myself being drawn more and more to mental health and relationship dynamics. At the same time, I found myself experiencing a significant reconstruction of my world view which guided me through several years of processing and unwinding old narratives that I had lived under for many years. Exploring and understanding my own messages of shame and painful internal ‘stories’ showed me firsthand how crucial it is to feel safe and valued in our relationships. We need that safety to thrive as we navigate the journeys of life. These personal experiences strongly influenced my desire to guide others through their own journey toward feeling heard and secure, ultimately leading me to become a certified emotionally focused therapist.
